Euromed Forum on Creative Industries and Society

13 May 2012, Jordan

Euromed Forum on Creative Industries & Society: A EUNIC initiative for the MENA Region will take place from Sunday, 13th till Tuesday, 15th May 2012 in Kempinski Hotel Ishtar, Dead Sea, Jordan

The term "Arab Spring" encompasses varying situations, specific to each country. However, even if some "Springs" are more prominent than others, they were all initiated by cultural and civil societies that started the outbreak. The same that find themselves now excluded as the movements - country by country - are expanding.

The Euromed Forum on Creative Industries & Society is the launch pad of a long-term EUNIC MENA Project which will address Democratic Empowerment, Cultural Policy and Creative Economy and aims to support the creative sector in the MENA region.

The Forum has two main objectives:
1.Offer the actors of cultural and civil society scene in the region a possibility to meet in order to create a network across borders;
2.Record the expectations of our cultural and civil society partners in order to conceptualize the structure of the long-term EUNIC MENA Project.

In order to achieve these objectives, the Forum will be organized in an innovative, creative and highly participatory format using Open Space Technology (OST). OST is a method bringing all stakeholders (formal, non-formal, independent, institutions etc.) together to discuss and to seek a shared solution. Facilitators will assist in the process. In the evening, one-to-one meetings will provide an opportunity for participants to meet representatives of EUNIC, the EC, cultural entrepreneurs etc. A Fair will be set-up where participants can promote their work, present their projects and make new contacts.

The Forum will gather around 250 representatives of the Creative Industries – cultural operators, artists, NGOs, cultural organisations and institutions, public authorities, the EU Institutions as well as EUNIC members from the MENA region (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia) and the EU. It is open to invited participants only, assigned by the EUNIC Clusters in the MENA region and the EUNIC Members in Europe. The travel and accommodation costs of some participants will be covered by EUNIC and the working languages will be Arabic, English and French.
