The XIV Forum of Ministers of Culture and Officials in Charge of Cultural Policies in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held in Caracas, on September 28 and 29. Delegates and representatives from 33 countries in the region will discuss issues common to the region. Integration and cultural diversity will be two of the major topics in the debates. Strategies for cultural integration in Latin America and the Caribbean and support to the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions will be among the topics to be discussed during the meeting. The agenda was approved during the first preparatory meeting of the Pro Tempore Secretariat, held at the National Council for Culture (Conac). During the meeting, the Chair to the Forum was also officially transferred from the Republic of Ecuador to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The Minister of Culture, His Excellency Mr. Francisco Sesto Novás, wished the meeting to become a successful gathering, in which cultural authorities can sincerely dialogue and discuss the problems of the region, as well as other issues, such as integration and the changes occurring in brother countries. “We will have the most authentic, simple, deep and useful Forum,” stated the Minister. Among the items discussed in the agenda was the Portal of Culture of Latin America and the Caribbean. Moreover, and as a proposal to strengthen the international Forum, participants in the preparatory meeting agreed to include a representative from UNESCO as a Member of the Forum.
