There is concern in Vanuatu that an influx of foreign media programming on a proposed new mobile television network will decimate local culture and custom. Earlier this month the chairman of Irish-based mobile phone company Digicel met with Prime Minister Joe Natuman to discuss a proposal for a mobile TV network that would introduce more than 50 new channels into Vanuatu. Programs would be viewed on people's mobile phones. The proposal has senior cultural figures worried.
