A 12-month collaboration between the Australia Council for the Arts and 11 multicultural arts organisations has come to fruition, with the first-ever national touring program dedicated to multicultural arts recently kicking off in Adelaide. ‘kultour’, billed as the first-ever national touring program dedicated to multicultural arts, will tour six visual and performing arts programs to each Australian state during the coming six-months, and is designed to give artists the opportunity to reach new audiences and interact with peers across the country. Mark Stapleton, the council’s Manager of Policy and Planning, commented that A$160,000 has been dedicated to the project, as part of the 'Arts in Multicultural Australia' policy implementation. ‘The artists represented in “kultour” are professionals noted for the engaging interpretation of their artforms: be it theatre, dance, visual art or music. The vibrancy of the work comes from ideas only possible within a multicultural Australia,’ he said. Described as a collection of some of the best modern arts practice in Australia, the ‘kultour’ program will include performances by Polish born, classically trained Jessica Ipkendanz and Chilean-born Marco Quiroz in Latin Gypsy Experiment, by Middle Eastern dancer Clair Naffah and by Fijian Indian Kamal Krishna. An exhibition of works by Australian–Italian artist Lee Salomone will also soon begin a tour at Sydney's 4A Gallery. ‘[The program] is exposing new audiences to some of our most talented artists – the artworks cross genres, styles and cultures – often within the same production,’ Stapleton concluded.
