As reported in Movie Trader the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals were a great time to buy and sell. The films under the hammer were:
  • Jet Lag, a French romantic comedy with Juliette Binoche, Jean Reno and Sergi Lopez, which Miramax have purchased US, Australia and New Zealand and South African rights to.
  • Paramount Classics have bought the Venice Grand Jury prize winner, House of Fools directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. Paramount have bough distribution for Australia, New Zealand, US and UK. The film is based on a true story and set in a psychiatric hospital in the Chechian War in 1996.
  • Films were also picked up for initial US only distribution, which may get local distributors at a later date.
