The Musicological Society of Australia will co-host the 2004 Symposium of the International Musicological Society (SIMS) in Melbourne, and is now calling for proposals for papers for the event. Scheduled for July 2004, the six-day symposium will address themes including the use of music in commemoration, the commodification of music and its use in communications. The event is expected to bring together musicologists, ethnomusicologists, popular and traditional music specialists, academics in interdisciplinary fields, professional musicians, students, teachers and others interested in the field. The MSA and its co-hosts, the International Council for Traditional Music and the International Society for the Study of Popular Music, are now calling for researchers across all disciplines to submit proposals for papers, on any aspect of music as it relates to the conference themes. Contributions are particularly invited from younger scholars, indigenous scholars, and from scholars based outside Western Europe, North America and Australasia.
