New director appointed at Canada Council

John Hobday has been appointed Director of the Canada Council for the Arts. Mr Hobday currently serves as Executive Director of the Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Foundation, and has worked as a Drama and Features Producer for CBC Radio. In addition to his service on numerous arts boards, Hobday is the recipient of honours such as the Order of Canada (2001), the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal, and the Government of Ontario Volunteer Service Award. He was also awarded the Canadian Conference of the Arts’ Diplome d’honneur, in 1999, for his service to the arts in Canada. Mr Hobday will commence as Director on January 20. Dr Shirley Thomson, who completed her five-year term as Director on December 31, continues in her role as Chair of IFACCA.
