A new report on the presentation of contemporary arts in Quebec

Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec,
21 February 2024, Canada

After looking at the Dissemination of the performing arts in 2019, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec wanted the contemporary arts sector, which includes visual arts, digital arts, video film, fine crafts and architectural research, to reflect on its own dissemination issues by sharing experiences, knowledge and reflections to identify solutions to common challenges.

To accomplish this mission, the Conseil worked closely with the community to produce a new Report on the Dissemination of Contemporary Arts, the result of an exercise in exchange and search for solutions with its representatives, who are facing increasingly complex challenges. This reflection project mobilized several experts in digital arts, visual arts, arts and crafts, film-video and architectural research and revealed the urgency of finding solutions to adapt to the many and constant transformations underway.

The guidelines for the work were structured around three main themes:

  1. Digital technology
  2. Outreach
  3. Audience development

In addition to bringing inherent benefits to the sharing of information between actors working in the field of contemporary arts, this report by the reflection committee aims to contribute to a better understanding of the issues and realities of this field, particularly by artists, cultural workers, organizations, businesses and institutions that are or can become partners in its development.

The work of this project will soon result in an action plan, which will guide the Council's dissemination efforts, in order to support the artistic community in this necessary transformation.
