14 March 2003, Australia

The Australian Federal Government initiative, noise will take place during October 2003. Billed as a ‘coup d’etat of the media by a critical mass of young Australian creators,’ the noise festival is aimed at bridging the gap between young artists and the media. Unlike the traditional festival format, noise takes place without a venue. Rather, festival offerings will be available to viewers through the internet, magazines, television and radio. The opportunity to create festival content is open to all Australians aged 25 years or under, with 12 projects on offer across a range of arts activities. noise Executive Producer, Brandon Saul, remarked that the festival aims to highlight the means by which young people can become actively engaged with the media. ‘Technology has really changes the way media can be produced and has also helped make the media a truly accessible and legitimate cultural space,’ he said.
