Canada Council meets with Aboriginal artists in Quebec

IFACCA/Artshub,
27 March 2003, Canada

Canada Council staff recently joined Quebec's Aboriginal artists for 'Recontre de reflexion,' a meeting aimed at familiarising Aboriginal artists with the council and its programs. The meeting marked the first time a province-wide gathering for Quebec’s Aboriginal artists had been organised by the council. Participants included 14 artists from around the province, including three cultural directors from Sept-Iles, Kahnawake and Montreal; the council’s Aboriginal Arts Co-ordinator, Louise-Profeit LeBlanc; the council’s Head of Visual Arts; the Inter-Arts Co-ordinator and six Aboriginal arts officers. ‘It was a highlight for all the Aboriginal officers and myself to be able to meet face-to-face with the artists of Quebec’s remote communities to begin this process… on how they see the council playing a future role in the development of their artistic practices,’ Profeit-LeBlanc said.
