The Canada Council Art Bank will acquire 52 new works of art worth a total of CAN$165,820. The Art Bank was created in 1972 to support the efforts of Canadian visual artists and to provide government offices with the opportunity to rent Canadian art for their private and public spaces. It includes some 18,000 works and currently has over 6,400 rented to more than 200 government and corporate clients. ‘I am delighted that we are able to add to our collection photographs, oil paintings, fine crafts and sculpture; works emphasising the diversity and creativity of Canadian art,’ said Art Bank Director Victoria Henry. The works were selected on the basis of artistic excellence, significance to current art practice and suitability for rental. The committee also took into consideration regional representation and cultural diversity, and paid particular attention to works by young and emerging artists.
