SENIOR EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENT By Watermark Search International Tuesday, 28 October, 2003 The Australian Museum has an outstanding international reputation in the fields of natural history and indigenous studies research, community programs and exhibitions. The Museum was established in 1827 and is Australia’s oldest museum with unique and extensive collections of natural science and cultural artefacts. The Museum is a statutory body funded by the NSW Government, and also by revenue generated from grants, sponsorships, fundraising activities and its commercial operations. The organisation has approximately 300 staff with a budget of $29 million. The Museum has entered an exciting new phase of revitalisation, aimed at ensuring it is best positioned to undertake the diverse range of science and public programs under its charter. As part of an organisational re-structuring, three senior executive positions have been established to form the Museum’s leadership team and support the Museum’s Board of Trustees. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR PUBLIC PROGRAMS AND OPERATIONS Reporting to the Director, Australian Museum, this important role will lead the development of the Museum’s exhibition and public programs and its financial, marketing and organisational management to support the Museum’s strategic objectives. Key accountabilities include: management of the corporate services function inclusive of finance, IT, human resources and facilities management; development of revenue generating commercial opportunities involving pricing, events and exhibition works; development and marketing of innovative exhibitions, education and public programs which maximise access to the Museum’s collections and research; and support and advice to the Director and the Trust in the development of organisational development programs, performance management systems and budgetary processes which ensure optimal allocation of funds and resources aligned to the Museum’s strategies. Candidates will have tertiary qualifications and extensive experience in the management of a large or complex organisation with the ability to strategically plan and deliver creative public programs and exhibitions, supported by strong corporate services capability across the functions of finance, human resources and IT. Well developed business planning and marketing skills are critical, as is policy development knowledge and the ability to lead, coach and performance manage people. Common selection criteria also apply. Remuneration package within the range of $143,451 to $153,900 per annum will be negotiated, as will the term of appointment. Ref: 5195
