* Leading National Institution * Canberra Based * Attractive Remuneration The Australian Government is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Director to lead our country’s newest national cultural institution, the National Museum of Australia. The National Museum of Australia fosters understanding of Australia's history and culture, through exhibitions, education programs and its significant collection. Since March 2001 the Museum has hosted approximately 1.9 million visitors and has undertaken an extensive schedule of public programs. The Director is responsible for the management of the Museum consistent with the strategic policies of the Council. In the coming months, the Director will require a focus on the outcomes of the Review of Exhibitions and Public Programs conducted by Professor John Carroll. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding management and innovative leadership ability, and have excellent communication skills. Knowledge of the museum sector and ability to operate in the public sector are important. Applications close Thursday 18 December 2003.
