Cultural representatives from Italy and Montreal have opened a new exhibition entitled Oceania, that celebrates cultural collaboration between the two countries. Oceania is housed at Montreal Archeology and History Museum - Pointe-à-Callière - and works presented come from the prestigious Luigi Pigorini national museum of prehistory and ethnography in Rome. President of the Montreal Treasury Council, Mrs Line Beauchamp, Minister responsible for the Montreal region, Mrs Monique Jérôme-Forget, and Council General of Italy, Mr. Gian Lorenzo Cornado, were among several distinguished cultural leaders who attended the inauguration of the exhibition. In 2002, an Italo-Quebecois mixed sub-commission emphasised ten years of collaboration in the domains of education, culture, science and technology and agreed to enact ways and means to preserve and grow cultural exchange. In September 2003, Quebec and Italy committed to a new joint program and discussed further steps at Met Italia, the Italian cultural display presented to Quebec in February. Oceania was born of discussions at Met Italia. All parties present offered high praise for the event and expressed hope that it signifies a long lasting cultural partnership between the two nations.
