Arts Board appointments for Creative New Zealand

New Zealand Associate Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, the Hon Judith Tizard has announced the appointment of Alastair Carruthers as Chair of the Arts Board of Creative New Zealand. Chief Executive at major New Zealand law firm Chapman Tripp, Carruthers has a long-standing interest in the arts, formerly serving as Trustee of the New Zealand String Quartet. He was first appointed to the Arts Board of Creative New Zealand in August 2001. His term as Chair runs from the 1 July 2004 through to 30 June 2007. Ms Tizard also announced the re-appointment of two other Arts Board members, Judith Fyfe and Graeme Gorton. Ms Fyfe is a solicitor and past lecturer in oral history at Victoria University in Wellington, and Mr Gorton recently retired as General Manager of the Theatre Royal in Christchurch. In addition, arts and education consultant Keri Kaa has been re-appointed to Te Waka Toi – the Council’s seven member Maori Arts Board – while Peter Brunt, a Samoan New Zealander with a background in film, has been re-appointed to the Council for a further three-year term. The Arts Board of Creative New Zealand supports the arts of all New Zealanders through allocating funding to specific arts projects, arts organisations and individual artists.
