The Canada Council is seeking a Project Coordinator for the 2004 Canadian Conference of the Arts: Arts and Learning: A Call to Action. This full-time contract is for a duration of 3 years, and will commence in August 2004, based in Ottawa, Ontario. Canada needs citizens who can find innovative responses to the challenges and opportunities presented by the diverse and complex modern world. Engagement with cultural expression strengthens the creative process, encourages social harmony and – through fostering the process of learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together - develops individuals of confidence, imagination and transformative vision. For these reasons, this initiative is intended to ensure that, as a point of principle, access to learning about the arts and culture, and to the expression of humanity's cultural heritage, becomes a fundamental element of learning in Canada. The Project Coordinatior will: - Coordinate and execute Arts and Learning project initiatives - Manage initiatives from planning and delivery to evaluation and grant acquittal. - Liaise with consultants, researchers and stakeholders - Oversee contractors, and Arts and Learning content development - Produce and distribute communications material as required Projects include: - Producing and implementing an advocacy strategy - Developing strategic networks and partnerships - Producing a Status Report on arts and learning in Canada - Sharing research, models and best practices through a web-based clearinghouse - Establishing a central Secretariat to coordinate the work of partners and stakeholders Oversee areas of: - Communication - Advocacy and Development - Research - Management and Administration The position requires: - Extensive knowledge of arts education programs, activities, and practices in Canada - Experience in developing and implementing national advocacy and communication strategies - Project reporting skills and experience in developing and managing budgets, work plans, and deadlines - Demonstrated project management skills - Demonstrated fundraising skills - Creative problem solving skills and knowledge of research methodologies - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French - Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook Express and Internet Explorer - Knowledge of and experience using databases - The ability to work efficiently and cooperatively both independently and as part of a small team - The ability to organize and lead consultations with various stakeholders - Such knowledge and skills will be acquired through the completion of a university degree in a related field and a minimum of 7 years of project management experience in the arts sector. Salary is negotiable, depending on skills and experience. The application deadline is Tuesday, August 31, 2004.
