The Australia Council for the Arts is bringing the creator of the term 'cultural brokerage', Professor Richard Kurin, to Australia on a public lecture tour. Kurin is the Director of the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage at the Smithsonian Institution in the USA. He worked on indigenous kinship systems in Pakistan the late 1970s and he has forged an extensive career working with public officials, cultural organisations, sponsors, and the media on cultural matters in more than 50 nations. Kurin will tour major Australian cities discussing insights and contents from his new book Reflections of a Culture Broker, A View From the Smithsonian, which examines on the professional challenges of delivering major cultural presentations and exhibitions around the globe. Reflections presents a fascinating selection of case studies and suggests a code of conduct for individuals and agencies involved in cultural brokerage, including direct negotiation and collaboration with the people whose culture is being represented. Dr Kurin's visit Australia is supported by the Australia Council and the US Consulate. For more information, CLICK HERE.
