An opportunity exists to join the Australia Council as the Director -- ATSIA (Indigenous Arts). This is a contract role for three years, which is located in Surry Hills, Sydney.
The key objectives of this role are to:
Deliver a whole-of-organisation strategy for ATSIA through consultation with key internal and external stakeholders
Guide the activities of the organisation to achieve the ATSIA strategy within the framework of the Australia Council Act, corporate goals and guidelines (vision, mission, values)
Provide leadership and expert Indigenous Arts and Culture advice and support to the Australia Council management, government and key stakeholders.
Develop, promote and leverage a range of relationships and partnerships between Indigenous artists and communities and key government, corporate and community agencies to ensure a thriving and enduring Indigenous arts and cultural life.
Proactively drive support and encourage the arts and culture of Indigenous Arts and Culture toward the wider audience.
Manage the ATSIA Board of Council to deliver grant programs that support strategy outcomes to artists and organisations
Serve as an effective member of Senior Executive team, working collaboratively with them and the CEO on key organisational issues and in meeting objectives of the Strategic Plan.
Lead, manage and mentor the ATSIA team to achieve Divisional objectives.
It is expected that you will have (competency requirements):
High-level expertise in Indigenous Arts and Culture including knowledge and understanding of current issues, the diversity and complexities as applied to Indigenous culture in Australia.
Demonstrated ability to manage employees while providing strong leadership including the ability to motivate staff, build team skills and practice performance management skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and strategic and operational plans.
Proven experience in working effectively and sensitively with Indigenous artists, arts organisation and/ or communities at different levels of government and in regional areas to achieve identified outcomes.
Experience in facilitating consultative processes, developing and sustaining effective partnerships and working with groups with a diverse range of interests.
Exceptional relationship management skills particularly in the Public sector with ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people and to employ tact, discretion and excellent judgement.
Highly developed and proven written, oral communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
Demonstrated high level project management skills.
Ability to provide innovative and creative leadership in order to influence and integrate cross-Council business.
Capacity to work in a senior management team reporting to the CEO
