Quebec Minister for Culture, Mrs. Line Beauchamp, has announced the appointment of Mr. Mario Dufour as President of the Commission of Cultural Assets. Dufour, who will take up his post on March 7, holds an honorary doctorate in social sciences from the University of Quebec. He also studied at Laval University, completing a Baccalaureate and a Masters degree in Theology. After many years devoted to the priesthood, Dufour was appointed Curate to the parish of Notre-Dame-des-Victoires (1987 to 1995), then Curate to the Saint-Roch parish of Quebec (1995 to 2003). President of the Sacred Music Festival of Quebec since 1998 and Administrator for the Commission of the National Capital of Quebec since 1996, he also served as President of the Commission of Place-Royal, President of the Corporation for Quebec Heritage and Religious Tourism, Administrator for the Canadian Centre for Studies and International Co-operation. Beauchamp praised Dufour’s expertise and said she ‘happily anticipates’ the gravitas he will bring to his new role. The Minister expressed her gratitude to outgoing Commission President, Louise Brunelle-Lavoie. ‘Mrs. Brunelle-Lavoie undertook work for the CCA with zeal and determination,’ said Beauchamp. The Commission of Cultural Assets, established in 1972, studies requests relating to the restoration of assets, the attribution of legal statutes, archaeological research, and other heritage projects.
