A three-year initiative has begun in Vancouver, Canada, with the creation of a Centre of Expertise on Culture and Communities. The Centre, a project of the Creative City Network of Canada located at Simon Fraser University, will provide research opportunities, outreach and networking, and the ability for participants to exchange in knowledge and ideas. The Centre will also be a place which will provide understanding of cultural dynamics, systems and support frameworks, understanding cultural infrastructure in cities and communities, and the impacts of culture on cities and communities. Building on membership, outreach and other networks, the Centre will nurture opportunities for networking within cultural sectors, and increase the awareness and understanding of the necessity for investment in cultural organisations, the importance of investment as part of community development, and distribute research results in order to create a greater exchange of knowledge.
