The Canada Council has welcomed a "thrilling" $306.5 million funding boost to their budget. The increase, over three years, was announced yesterday by Canadian Heritage Minister Liza Frulla. “This is thrilling news, not just for the Canada Council and the arts community, but for all Canadians,” said Canada Council Chair Karen Kain. “It is a clear indication that the government recognizes the enormous contribution the arts make to the quality of life of Canadians and the communities they live in.” The Council said it would use the additional funding to benefit artists and arts organisations in all disciplines and all regions. “It will provide the resources our artists and arts organisations desperately need to create, produce, present and tour outstanding work, and share that work with audiences at home and abroad,” said Ms. Kain. The Canada Council will celebrate it's 50th anniversary in 2007. For more information, CLICK HERE.
