ABC continues in Asia-Pacific

The ABC in Australia has been selected as the preferred provider to continue to run Australia’s Asia Pacific television service. The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Alexander Downer MP. ABC Asia Pacific is the country’s international satellite television provider and an online service, which broadcasts into 41 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. It has an annual audience growth of 54%. ABC Managing Director Russell Balding said, "We are delighted the ABC will continue to broadcast to Asia Pacific audiences. The Australian Government has shown great confidence in the ABC to present a window to the region of modern Australian life and importantly provide continued access to independent news and current affairs. The ABC has proven its ability to provide an invaluable service, offering a newsworthy, entertaining view of Australian society, culture and democratic institutions to the Asia Pacific region”.
