Cultural well-being now online

A portal to cultural well-being resources is a new website dedicated to Cultural Well-Being. It has a range of useful tools to help local authorities promote the cultural well-being of their communities.

Developed by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, www.culturalwellbeing.govt.nz was ‘soft launched’ earlier this year to make the many cultural well-being resources easily available to councils. Its content ranges from strategy documents to useful links and profiles.

Features include:

  • how to define cultural well-being
  • how central government contributes to cultural well-being
  • local authority strategies, publications, reports, policies and resources
  • funding Information from www.NZLive.com
  • monitoring and measuring cultural well-being outcomes
  • resources including Literature Reviews
  • examples from profiled councils.

This is the first website dedicated to one of the four ‘well-beings’ under the Local Government Act 2002. It will not only help councils meet their requirements but is also intended to inspire new ideas.

For example, a profile on North Shore City Council ‘Bridging the Gap Between Art and Utility’ demonstrates how creatively cultural well-being can be incorporated into urban planning. The Council’s head-turning bridge design has been popular with the local community who have embraced it as urban artwork rather than just another utility.
