Reaching common ground: culture, gender and human rights

UNFPA,
08 December 2008, International

The United Nations' Population Fund (UNFPA) presented its new State of the Wold Population 2008 report on 12 November. The report states that culture is a central component of successful development of poor countries, and must be integrated into development policy and programming.

The report endorses culturally sensitive approaches to development and to the promotion of human rights, in general, and women’s rights, in particular. A Youth Supplement showing how culture shapes and nurtures the lives of young people and how young people develop their own subcultures was also published on the occasion.

The report is available in English, French and Spanish.
