IFACCA,
29 January 2009, Portugal

We are delighted to welcome the Direcção-Geral das Artes  of the Ministry of Culture of Portugal as IFACCA’s newest member, bringing the number of national members to 64.

The Ministry of Culture pursues a comprehensive and coordinated policy in the field of culture and related areas. It supports and promotes activities that enhance people's access to new cultural opportunities and cultural pluralism and aims to improve access to culture and, at the same time, defend and safeguard cultural heritage, encouraging new forms of knowledge and enjoyment.

The Ministry of Culture has particular responsibility for the major infrastructure essential to the development of a coherent, consistent and effective cultural policy.  It also seeks to enhance the diversity of cultural initiatives to develop civil society and, equally, to encourage co-operation not only with the municipal and regional authorities but also with private actors and citizens in general.

The role of the Direcção-Geral das Artes  is to coordinate and implement policies to support the arts, foster institutional partnerships and promote appropriate policies to ensure the universality of arts enjoyment, and the freedom of artistic creation and skills.
