The Canada Council for the Arts is a federal Crown corporation created by an Act of Parliament in 1957 “to foster and promote the study and enjoyment of, and the production of works in, the arts.” The Council offers a broad range of grants and services to professional Canadian artists and arts organizations. The Council reports to Parliament through the Minister of Canadian Heritage and is receives most of its funding from the Government of Canada.

The Head, Digital Media and Creative Services, takes the lead for development of all creative products, including web-based products and activities, required to implement the strategies and audience-focused communications plans of the Council.  The position takes the lead for developing frameworks and standards for and for managing Council-wide central communications services, including high quality writing, translation and production of materials.  The Head is responsible for the development and implementation of web-based activities (internet and intranet), including developing appropriate audience-focussed content, managing the technical elements of web design, maintenance and other related elements.

The ideal candidate is bilingual in both official languages and has:

an honours bachelors degree in communications, business management, liberal arts or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in the areas of accountability;
seven years of progressively responsible communications and communications management experience in the areas of responsibility, preferably related to the arts environment;
skills in the areas of management, planning and budgeting, design, writing, editorial practices, translation practices and standards related to the production of communications materials;
an understanding of the use of digital media for audience-centred communication;
excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills, and
knowledge of the arts practices in Canada.
This position is located in Ottawa and may require up to 10 days of travel a year.
