The culture minister, Ángeles González-Sinde has appeared today before the Culture Committee of Congress to explain the basic operations of the Ministry of Culture in this Legislature that will focus primarily on giving new impetus to culture as an economic engine, encouraging global projection in the world.
"I want to invite all parliamentary groups, and the entire society to embark on a path that is within our grasp: to place culture at the level it deserves, in the range of state policy," said the minister in the course of his speech, which has been exposing various schemes for the Department.
The development includes a Plan of Development of Cultural Contents on the Internet, which the Ministry of Culture aims to complement future actions regarding the protection of intellectual property rights in the network.
Given the need to connect children and adolescents with culture, the minister announced the launch of a program of actions designed to promote and facilitate child and youth access to culture, including increased access of families, in the activities of museums and musical and theatrical production, the design of new measures in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and the Autonomous Communities and the launch of a web portal specifically aimed at children and adolescents, so that future citizens can be connected as soon as possible to the best tradition and cultural heritage.
During his speech, González-Sinde has revealed a consensus with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation on the international promotion of Spanish culture, which strongly enhances the coordination, planning and effectiveness of the actions of the Ministry of Culture. It has highlighted the maximum support of the minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos.
Regarding the new Law on Cultural Heritage of Spain, whose first draft is being written by a working committee of experts, the minister has promised that the draft will be completed before the year end. The new Act will replace the current Heritage Act, which dates from 1985.
As for other major projects, Ángeles González-Sinde has referred to the future of Digital Preservation National Archives, which already has a suitable site in Alcala de Henares and is currently reviewing the program needs.
