Course set for future development

Pro Helvetia,
17 December 2009, Switzerland

After three years of parliamentary debate, the new Arts and Culture Promotion Act has been passed. The new law defines Pro Helvetia’s government mandate more precisely and brings with it a number of new responsibilities. The Arts Council is now responsible for cultural outreach and education, innovative projects and the promotion of young artists. It continues to provide work grants. Pro Helvetia’s autonomy is retained and, for the first time, set down in law. However, the Federal Council now defines the strategic targets via the Arts Council’s mandate.
