Two new publications, the Arts Council's Annual Review and Digest of Arts Statistics, were officially launched today at the organisation's bi-annual Chairs' and Chief Executives' Forum.
The publications were unveiled at the Arts Council's Chairs' and Chief Executives' Forum, which took place at the recently opened Theatre at The Mill in Newtownabbey. Representatives from local arts organisations were invited along to the conference to discuss their views on funding for the arts and to look at practical solutions to help prepare for the challenging economic times ahead.
Rosemary Kelly, OBE, Chairman of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, commented: "It is a pleasure to be able to launch these two publications today in one of our newest arts venues - one of a number across the country that now provide a dedicated arts facility within twenty miles of every person in Northern Ireland.
"The next 12 months will undoubtedly see the Northern Ireland budget facing increasing pressures. However it is vital that in the difficult times ahead we strive to maintain the balance of the fragile creative ecosystem, where even a moderate change to one part may have drastic consequences for the rest."
Roisin McDonough, Chief Executive of the Arts Council, continued: "Both of these publications illustrate how the arts touch so many areas of our social and economic lives. The Review provides a point of reflection, looking back at the achievements of arts organisations and venues whose work is supported by Arts Council funds. While in the Digest we have been able to provide a reliable source of information on current arts based activities, evidencing the significant contribution the arts make to help grow a dynamic and innovative economy.
"These publications remind us that the arts serve a public purpose. Arts and culture help enrich our lives and they are one of the measures against which a society is judged as a good place to work and live."
