Ministry of Culture,
23 November 2010, Portugal

The Gabinete de Planeamento, Estratégia, Avaliação e Relações Internacionais do Ministério da Cultura (GPEARI)  is organising a seminar on cultural agents’ mobility and internationalization that will take place on November 23, at CCB, Lisboa. The debate will be opened by the Minister of Culture and António Pinto Ribeiro, Kalaf Ângelo, Vera Mantero, João Brites and representatives of several international organizations that promote mobility will also take part.

The seminar will take place on 23 November, at CCB, Lisboa (Sala Luís de Freitas Branco) from 10h to 13h and from 14.30h to 17.30h

Recent research, like that carried out by the Observatório das Actividades Culturais, on mobility in the performing arts sector, show that Portuguese institutions and artists are below a desirable internationalization level.

Which are the main obstacles that cultural agents’ mobility faces? What is the importance of mobility for the cultural sector? How and what can be done to promote the internationalization of artists and cultural agents?

To debate these issues,GPEARI is organizing a seminar, the 23rd of November, that will encourage delegates to come up with solutions and will make visible to the Portuguese public some of the networks, organizations and tools available to promote the mobility of artists and cultural professionals.

The debate will be initiated by Portugal’s Ministry of Culture and experts, academicians, artists and representatives of international organizations like TransArtists, Office National de Diffusion Artistique (ONDA), Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme and the organization On The Move.

One of the highlights will be the participation of António Pinto Ribeiro, national expert member of the working group that wrote a report for the European Commission on Artists’ and Cultural Professionals Mobility. Pinto Ribeiro will present the main recommendations of this document, the result of two years of reflection and research.

Other speakers confirmed are Richard Poláček, author of the report Study on Impediments to Mobility in the EU Live Performance Sector, the musician Kalaf, founder of the group Buraka Som Sistema, the choreographer Vera Mantero and João Brites, Teatro O Bando’s Director.

Registration is free of charge until November 17, and limited to the room’s capacity. To register write to [email protected] (name, organization, contact information)
