MYSC Participates At The Education and Information Exposition For The Deaf

Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture,
12 July 2013, Botswana

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture was part of the service providers that took part in the education and information exposition aimed for the people with hearing impairment held in Francistown on the 8th - 12th July 2013. The event was organised by the Botswana Society for the Deaf (BSD) and the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Hon. Mokgweetsi Masisi gave a keynote address on the opening of a week-long event.

Giving an overview of the BSD Mrs Mokgosi said that the BSD was established in 1979 and built a Centre for the Deaf in Ramotswa and another in 1989 in Francistown. Both institutions became the best for providing education and training for the hearing impaired, with the help of German donors.

Ms T. Makhale made a presentation on behalf of MYSC and briefed the Deaf about several programmes available in the ministry for people with disability and how measures are being put in place at MYSC for social inclusion of people with disability.

The entire event was a learning curve for both the hearing and the hearing impaired as both exchanged ideas on how to meet each other half way so that the hearing impaired are not left in the lurch in terms of accessing services and goods.
