Minister of Information and Culture Acquitted from Accusation of $1 Million Embezzlement

A Commission assigned by President Hamid Karzai acquitted the Minister of Information and Culture, Sayed Makhdoom Raheen of embezzlement charges to the one $ 1 million.  The body comprised of High Office of Oversight and Anti-Corruption (HOOAC), Attorney General Office (AGO) and Crime Investigation Department, (CID) of Kabul sent final report of its investigations to the president the other day.  The report stated that Raheen was not involved in embezzlement of $ 1 million dollar.  “The $ 1 million dollars pledged by the South Asia Foundation in aid to Afghanistan was not received by the Afghan Ministry of Information at whole, but in different installments around $229,799 of the aid money was granted to the ministry during tenure of Sayed Makhdoom Raheen and were spent transparently, the body said that Raheen can file a defamation suit against the accusers.
