Uruguay and Bolivia signed an agreement on cultural protection and cooperation

As part of the celebration of the Book Fair in La Paz, the Ministry of Education and Culture represented by the Minister Óscar Gómez and Bolivian authorities signed an agreement on cultural exchange.

Uruguay in its capacity as guest of honor at the nineteenth edition of the International Book Fair of la Paz (FIL) participates with 17 publishers, 700 publications and seven ruguayan writers including Ramiro Sanchíz and Fernanda Trías (novelists); Mercedes Estramil and Horacio Cavallo (poets); Abel Alves (cartoonist) and children's writer Sebastian Perozo.

Uruguay's ambassador in Bolivia, Carlos Flanagan noted that the chosen literary writers represent the new production of the country.

The memorandum of understanding on cultural cooperation aims to establish cooperation in various cultural issues, especially pointing to the issue of cooperation in the protection of works of art heritage of both countries.
In this regard the cultural cooperation the Minister declared, "this is the first step for the citizens of our countries to become cultural citizens." He stressed that the "agreement will allow us to exchange experiences and to publicize and protect our heritage. "

The opening ceremony included a presentation by Uruguayan songwriter Alejandro Balbis and Bolivian folk group Wiphala y Nativa Música del Mundo.
