Following a reassessment of state funding for the cultural sector, it has emerged that some 20 organisations in Luxembourg are facing budget cuts.
After taking office, Culture Minister Maggy Nagel had announced that contracts for state subsidies with the country's cultural institutions would expire at the end of 2014 and would have to be renegotiated.
Nagel explained that there should be an end to the free-for-all distribution of funds, in favour of more targeted financial support.
Around 60 organisations submitted funding applications, in which they were asked to outline their projects. The Culture Ministry has now completed its evaluation and it appears that around 20 cultural organisations will have to face budget cuts.
