More than two and a half million perople participate annually in 200 traditional festivals.

More than two and a half million people move every year in our country to participate in about 200 traditional parties where communities celebrate the milestones that mark their existence.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sport and the Ministry of Education and Culture jointly support numerous Uruguayan festivals and celebrations. Both ministries have signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Office of Planning and Budgets that in 2013 through the Department of Territorial Policy and Program Uruguay Integra in 2013 conducted the "Guide to Uruguayan Celebrations".

The publication introduces some of the traditional celebrations of particular interest and their benefits for territories they are identified with.

The second edition is currently under production and it will include new celebrations not included in the first edition.

For the Ministry of Tourism and Sport and the Ministry of Education and Culture as well as for Foreign Affairs and various public agencies that support them, these festivals are cultural events of great significance with various contents related to various subjects like carnival, and other ethnic, religious and folklore related themes. These celebrations underscore the cultural diversity of Uruguay and local identities constituting a formidable invitation to discover our society, our country and our culture. The festivities will also become a powerful stimulus to tourism in our country.
