Statement on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Recommendations

Canada Council for the Arts,
02 June 2015, Canada

"Today's Truth and Reconciliation Commission's recommendations mark an historic moment and an important turning point in this country's relationship with the First Peoples of this land. We must collectively acknowledge, face and address our responsibility to the past, and to the future. We must support new ways of working together. The time to act is now.

Art, culture and creative expression are powerful ways in which we articulate and imagine our place in society. We know Indigenous artists have, and will continue to play a pivotal role in the ongoing process on conciliation and reconciliation in this country. We are proud, honoured and humbled to support their work through the {Re}conciliation partnership and a new program that is clearly rooted in Aboriginal ways of knowing, sharing and creating."
