How to judge the cultural climate in a country?

Budapest Observatory,
03 February 2016, International

What are the conditions for the vitality of cultural life in a country? What are the main characteristics of its environment? Which are the strengths and the weaknesses? (And yes, the opportunities and threats...) What kind of cultural policy model prevails?

The Budapest Observatory launched the Cultural Climate Barometer 2015 on the 2nd of November. The link to the survey was alive for five weeks. Based on the responses from the actors of the culture scene in as many countries of Europe and beyond as possible, the report tells the main similarities and differences between the respective cultural ecologies. Changes from the previous 2014 edition are also highlighted. Read the Concise Report: http://www.budobs.org/files/barometerreport15_24jan.pdf

The instrument has been evolving in several steps since the first pilot round in the autumn of 2013. Beyond the problematic factors for the vitality of culture, the current expanded version also asks about the accommodating, positive aspects that affect the cultural ecosystem. The report on the earlier version tells more about the origins as well as the conceptual and methodological questions of the survey.
