Artists plead for Turnbull Government to reconsider arts policy

Ahead of a likely early, double dissolution election, ArtsPeak (the confederation of national arts organisations) has written an open letter to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull asking him to reconsider his party’s arts policy.

In the letter, ArtsPeak accuses the government of deliberately weakening the decades-old arms-length funding principle and not understanding the workings of the arts sector. Most importantly, ArtsPeak has asked Turnbull to return the full funding to the Australia Council removed in the Abbott Government’s 2014 and 2015 budgets.
