Creative NZ seeks new Chief Executive

Creative New Zealand - Toi Aotearoa,
18 December 2023, New Zealand

Our purpose is to encourage, promote and support the arts in New Zealand for the benefit of all New Zealanders.

Creative NZ is dedicated to telling the diverse stories of Aotearoa through the arts, at home and on the global stage, encompassing festivals, literature, dance, music, Ngā Toi Māori and Pasifika artforms.

We are driven by our mission of encouraging, promoting, and supporting the arts in Aotearoa for the benefit of arts practitioners and all New Zealanders. We provide advocacy, funding, and support services to support artists at all stages of their careers, to impact across the sector and more broadly across New Zealand society.

As an autonomous Crown Entity, we are funded by the New Zealand Government via the NZ Lottery Grants Board and the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. Governed by the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa Act 2014, we recognise the critical role of Māori as tangata whenua of the arts in New Zealand. Collectively, we are committed to enhancing the rich cultural fabric that binds Aotearoa – actively promoting opportunities for New Zealand’s diverse cultures to express themselves and share their unique stories.

Creative NZ is now seeking an outstanding, progressive and contemporary leader to navigate the organisation through its next chapter. The CE is the ‘face’ of CNZ and the champion of the sector. As such, they will be an exceptional relationship builder and leader of people. They will be deeply connected to the principles that propel Creative NZ, guided by a holistic worldview rooted in tikanga Māori and mātauranga knowledge.

The incoming CEO will listen to and understand the sector and stakeholders, with a genuine ability to lean into the sector and collaborate to affect transformative change. An advocate, an enabler, and a partner, the CEO will be committed to the evolution of the arts in New Zealand; fostering opportunities for positive and powerful impact across our wider community.
