The Museum was established in 1827 and is Australia’s oldest museum with unique and extensive collections of natural science and cultural artefacts. The Museum is a statutory body funded by the NSW Government, and also by revenue generated from grants, sponsorships, fundraising activities and its commercial operations. The organisation has approximately 300 staff with a budget of $29 million. The Museum has entered an exciting new phase of revitalisation, aimed at ensuring it is best positioned to undertake the diverse range of science and public programs under its charter. As part of an organisational re-structuring, three senior executive positions have been established to form the Museum’s leadership team and support the Museum’s Board of Trustees. This high profile position is responsible for providing overall direction for the Museum’s activities, and will lead the development, implementation and review of strategies, policies and programs to support the organisation’s mission and objectives. The role ensures that the Museum’s scientific activities and public programs are aligned with organisational objectives and that resources are managed efficiently and effectively. Candidates should ideally demonstrate the ability to provide leadership in a high profile and complex organisational environment, and demonstrate a clear understanding of how scientific research, public programs and collections management functions are best integrated within the Museum. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding leadership capabilities, ability to manage change, a high level of financial acumen and the ability to represent the Museum in a diverse range of spheres. Candidates should possess superior communication, presentation and negotiation skills, judgement and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally. Relevant tertiary qualifications are essential. Common selection criteria also apply. The position reports to the Director General, Ministry for the Arts. Remuneration package within the range of $174,851 to $190,550 per annum will be negotiated, as will the term of appointment. Ref: 5193
