The Music Board of the Australia Council has welcomed the establishment of Youth Orchestras Australia (YOA), a national network of Australia's peak youth orchestras, rewarding the entity with $154,000. The funding, to be administered over a three-year period, will support the organisation’s aims of leadership, audience development and fostering of excellence in training the next generation of Australian musicians. Results from an analysis report commissioned by the Music Board indicate that Australia's youth orchestral sector is as vibrant as ever, engaging 2000 young people in music education each week, presenting over 300 concerts and generating a turnover of AUS$2.5 million each year. Dr Graeme Koehne, Chair of the Music Board said: 'The work of the sector brings orchestral and ensemble training that is vital to the future of Australia’s music scene locally and internationally. The YOA network will provide the national structure to reinforce the fundamental educational and audience-building priorities.' For further information CLICK HERE.
