REF NO: B47/004379 • Prominent leadership role • Australia’s leading Conservatorium of Music • High profile position in Australia's musical and cultural life The Sydney Conservatorium of Music is a Faculty of the University of Sydney. It is nationally and internationally recognised for its academic and artistic excellence. Many of Australia’s leading musicians, scholars, composers and music educators are graduates of the Conservatorium and the teaching staff includes many distinguished leaders in the fields of performance, composition, music education and musicology. The Conservatorium offers graduate and undergraduate, community and outreach programmes and provides the performance teaching for the Conservatorium High School. The University of Sydney wishes to appoint a Dean who will be responsible for the leadership, management and creative endeavour of the Conservatorium. The Dean, will have a distinguished background in music or a related professional discipline, and will provide strong leadership and vision within the University and the Conservatorium. The Dean is responsible: • for providing the academic and artistic leadership for the teaching and learning, research and creative work of the Faculty. • for the general management of the Faculty including the development of policy, strategy and operational functions. • for the financial and human resource management of the Faculty. • for developing and maintaining partnerships with the Conservatorium High School, the music profession, the cultural sector, government, other conservatoria nationally and internationally. • to the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences for strategic planning and directing the operations of the Conservatorium to ensure quality outcomes. • for the direction of corporate and government affairs, public relations and marketing, as these relate to the Faculty. The appointment as Dean is for an initial period of five years, with the possibility of renewal for up to a further two years, subject to the agreement of both parties. Applicants seeking a continuing professorial appointment will need to meet separate, specific requirements detailed in the Selection Criteria, which is contained in the Information Booklet. A remuneration package commensurate with the appointee's experience and standing will be negotiated. A relocation package will be available if applicable.
