New director for Australia Council for the Arts

The Australia Council for the Arts has appointed a new director to the Strategic Development for Community Partnerships board. Frank Panucci will take up this newly created position, which is designed to drive the establishment of the Community Partnerships board and to develop and implement strategies for community partnerships. The position will last for at least 12 months, with Panucci working closely with the Australia Council boards and committees, as well as with the arts and community cultural development sector. Panucci has previously worked with community organisations, from union roles to health centres, as well as cultural development and arts organisations. He has also been a manager of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts and the Community Cultural Development Fund, and the CEO of Community Cultural Development NSW. The CEO of the Australia Council, Jennifer Bott said that “Frank brings a wealth of hands-on experience in working with communities and the arts and expertise in strategy and policy development that will shape the future direction of our community partnerships policy and programs.” Panucci wants to see everyone in Australia having the opportunity to participate in the arts and cultural development of the country; “I believe that community-based and directed cultural development is an important measure of the 'wellness' of a society.” Panucci will begin in this new role on the 12th December 2005.
