Australia Council appoints members

The Australia Council has recently announced the appointments of its Multicultural Advisory Committee. The Committee develops strategies and monitors the Council’s Arts in a Multicultural Australia policy, as well as recommending directions to the Council on issues that will affect cultural diversity in the arts. The committee is made up of members who are industry experts in the areas of multiculturalism and the arts, appointed for their understanding, specialist knowledge, expertise and skills in arts in multicultural Australia. Nicola Downer, the Community Interest Representative on the Council’s governing body, will be chairing ACMAC. Other members include: Shane Carroll, chair for the Council’s Dance Board; Teresa Crea, a New Media arts fellow; Professor Amareswar Galla, from ANU; Walter Gomes, Community Development Officer, Arts and Culture Town of Kwinana; Kon Gouriotis, from Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre; Professor Andrew Jakubowicz, from the University of Technology in NSW; Fotis Kapetopoulos, from Kape Communications; and Tiffany Lee-Shoy, Ragional Cultural Planning Coordinator, Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils. Dower said that “Australia's cultural diversity is universally recognised. The Australia Council for the Arts has a long and proud history of supporting the creativity of Australia's myriad cultures.
