Queensland museum worker Bernadette McCormack is off to Washington DC. The Visitor Experience Manager at The Workshops Rail Museum was this week declared the winner of the prestigious Queensland – Smithsonian Fellowship. The Fellowship, which aims to foster an interchange of knowledge and skills between Queensland and the Smithsonian, will allow McCormack spend six months at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, assessing the role and impact of public programs in museums. She will compare the Smithsonian’s public program schedule to that offered by the four-year-old Workshops Rail Museum. The North Ipswich museum features events and activities such as Friends of Thomas, Circus Train, Ipswich Model Railway Show and the Great Railway Journeys of Australia exhibition. “I am absolutely delighted to receive this prestigious Fellowship that will provide valuable insights into another great museum of the world,” McCormack said. “Public programs are a vital part of the success of The Workshops Rail Museum, and indeed most museums around the globe, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to learn and share knowledge as I work collaboratively with my colleagues in this unique field.” A campus of the Queensland Museum, the Workshops Rail Museum is located at North Street, North Ipswich.
