Nominations to big ‘A’ awards 2009

Arts Access Aotearoa is seeking nominations for the Big ‘A’ Awards 2009, presented every year to celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations enhancing the artistic lives of marginalised people in New Zealand.

Arts Access Aotearoa is a national organisation, which advocates for marginalised people and communities to ensure they have access to the arts.

The four awards are:

Big ‘A’ Creative Spaces Award, which celebrates the outstanding contribution of a creative space working to enhance the artistic wellbeing of marginalised people

Big ‘A’ Community Partnership Award, which recognises a partnership between two or more organisations/formal structures actively engaged with a marginalised community to develop an artistic project/s

Big ‘A’ Prison Arts Leadership Award, which recognises the outstanding contribution of prison staff in the rehabilitation of prisoners through the arts

Big ‘A’ Winton and Margaret Bear Young Artist Award, which recognises the artistic potential of a young artist (21 years or under on 30 June 2009), who lives in the Great Wellington region, works in any artform, and whose background is disadvantaged.

Making a nomination
Each award has a nomination form. You are able to nominate yourself or others. All nominations will be confidential to Arts Access Aotearoa and the panel assessing the nominations.

What happens to your nomination
All nominations received by 5pm on 30 January 2009 are checked for eligibility.
A panel made up of four external assessors and one member of Arts Access Aotearoa decides on the 2009 recipients by 30 April 2009. Decisions will be based on the completed nomination form and the panel’s collective knowledge of the sectors.
All those who made the nominations will be advised of the outcome of their nomination by 31 May 2009.
The award recipients will be advised by 31 May 2009.
The Big ‘A’ Awards will be presented at a special ceremony at Parliament and hosted by the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage the Hon. Chris Finlayson in mid 2009.
