Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct

DEWHA,
15 July 2010, Australia

The Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct is now available.

The Code will be administered by Indigenous Art Code Limited, a public company established to manage the Code for the Indigenous visual arts industry. The Australian Government has provided $600,000 in support to Indigenous Art Code Limited to assist in the administration and implementation of the Code.

On 18 December 2008 a draft Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct was released seeking broader comment from the Indigenous visual arts industry.

The need for the Indigenous visual arts industry to finalise and implement of a code of conduct was a key recommendation of the Senate Inquiry report into the Indigenous visual arts and craft sector.

The Australia Council and the Department for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts have facilitated industry's development of a draft code of conduct. This draft code is consistent with Australian Competition and Consumer Commission guidelines for voluntary codes.
