In its five years of operation, the Cultural Incentive Funds (FI) has contributed over 100 million pesos to cultural development.

Cultural Incentive Funds (FI) celebrated its five years of operation, at an event at the Culture Department.
The event was chaired by the Minister of Education, Ricardo Ehrlich, Director of Culture, Hugo Achugar and Coordinator of the FI, Claudia Mera, who all noted the continued growth and integrating role of these funds in making companies and artists active cultural actors.

Since its inception, through the provision of more than 500 contributing companies, the National Council for the Evaluation and Development of Artistic and Cultural Projects (CONAEF) channeled more than $ 60 billion in about 100 projects in seven art disciplines.

This year, the program will continue its annual double call and there will be a second installment of the Seal of Cultural Responsibility as a contribution to the businesses that contributed to the Funds.

Claudia Mera, coordinator of the FI, announced that there will be an Anniversary Gala in October, where a book about the five years of the FI will be presented. Meanwhile, they are working on the organization of the event "Party Culture" in which the funded projects will be introduced to the general public.

In order to continue the consolidation of its objectives, FI created the figure of a "Cultural Godfather" that will be named annually among arts and culture supporters. In 2014 the ‘Cultural Godfather’ will be actress and TV host Noelia Campo.

Hugo Achugar, director of culture MEC, recalled the first year of the fund as "a strange new tool that artists did not really understand nor trust" with a contribution of only $ 600,000. Five years later, the contribution exceeded $ 85 million which shows, according Achugar that "both artists and entrepreneurs took over the project."

Finally, the Minister acknowledged that the FI has "demonstrated that there are institutional designs that reflect the joint efforts of all sectors involved in the development."In addition, the Minister said that these kind of initiatives are the first steps of opening of the Uruguayan culture abroad.
