Presentation of the Cultural Industries Market of the South

On Tuesday 15 April, the first Cultural Industries Market of the South (MICSUR) was presented in the Casa Patria Grande "President Nestor Kirchner", organized by the Secretary of State of Culture through the National Directorate of Cultural Industries. The Market will take place in the city of Mar del Plata and counts with the participation of ten South American countries.

The participants in the launch included the National Director of Cultural Industries Rodolfo Hamawi; the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Paula Español; the President of Argentinian Radio and Television (RTA), Tristán Bauer; the Director of General Pueyrredón, Gustavo Pulti; and the Director of Casa Patria Grande Presidente Néstor Kirchner, Pablo Vilas, among other civil servants and representatives of neighboring countries.

The Secretary of Culture Jorge Coscia said during his presentation: "We import refrigerators , cars and even water, but not creativity. We are not offered what we are and what we express. During this past decade we have been working on this and we have had a tremendous expansion of creative and cultural industries. A genuine peaceful revolution has been generated in this area. " " Argentina has become one of the largest producers of cultural and creative content in the world ," he noted.

Concerning MICSUR , he said "it is a fundamental policy of culture and industry that is produced in the context of a project that is changing the history of Argentina and the Patria Grande " . "We are at the dawn of a bright day, we are under the sun of justice , equality , brotherhood of Latin America ," said Coscia .

The National Director of Cultural Industries , Rodolfo Hamawi , referred to cultural industries and said: " The industries are growing at a steady pace in the region. As regards creativity, what we need is to circulate that creativity , put producers in contact with each other and there lies the basic objective of MICSUR " .

Furthermore, the national director of Industries Cuturales highlighted the relevance of MICSUR: "It's the first cultural encounter that is planned, designed and produced from South America. It is the first experience where we fully work with the rest of the participating countries to set this space that undoubtedly will be a turning point in the relationship of regional cultural industries. "

Tristan Bauer, meanwhile, spoke of culture as "one of the key drivers for transformation." "Culture is what makes people move, but it also creates work and in this sense is a central space for change, a space of unity, brotherhood, solidarity and defense of democracy," said the president of RTA. She noted that during MICSUR, a platform for public media in the region will be launched, so that the heads of broadcasting companies can exchange information of their respective countries.

Four days , multiple spaces

During the days of MICSUR , activities will be organized in different areas of the Gran Hotel Provincial and the Teatro Auditorium and the city of Mar del Plata. The planned activities include: presentations of regional businesses, presentations of international businesses, forums, lectures and meetings , music showcases, inaugural show,  MICSUR parade, institutional meetings  among other things.

The forums and special lectures include the sessions: "Digital Movement of Cultural Goods," by Peter Jenner ( England) and "Culture and media in Latin America," with the participation of Glenn Postolski and Damián Loretti (UBA ), Francisco Andrade Velasco (Minister of Culture of Ecuador ) and Ismael González Manelo (ALBA ); and "Between the global and the regional. International companies and their links with the region ," lead by Mario Valle ( Mexico ), along with Diego Reck (Fox Latin America Channel) , Sony , Amazon (Brazil) and Converse.

Other highlights of the conference are "Other views on cultural industries" by David Codling (director of the Culture for Latam-British Ciuncil), Alicia Adams (Keneddy Center for the performing arts) and MartínTalvari (Slush festival, Finland).

Also, the six sectors will be distributed in the following areas: Visual Café, Café Design, Café Games,  Café Performing Arts, Café Music & Café Editorial. In each table there will be meetings and specialized panels.
