Director of Arts Granting Programs

Canada Council for the Arts,
26 May 2015, Canada

As it approaches its 60th anniversary the Canada Council for the Arts has embarked upon a far-reaching transformation that will ensure it remains a leader in public support for the arts, both in Canada and internationally.  It is a dynamic time at the Council, and as the organization continues to promote the arts, to raise the profile of Canadian artists, and further enhances the public’s engagement with the arts, it is seeking a motivated leader to be the new Director of Arts Granting Programs.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director will be responsible for the continued renewal and evolution of the national arts funding programs that enable the Council to invest annually more than $150 million to support the creation, promotion, excellence, and diversity of Canadian arts and literature. The Director will be an expert and a generalist, playing the role of integrating the diverse arts-related perspectives and specializations that are assembled within the Canada Council, and will ensure the maintenance and strategic development of in-depth knowledge and expertise in all arts disciplines the Council supports now and in the future.

As the ideal candidate you combine intellectual curiosity with a comprehensive knowledge of the trends, issues, and challenges shaping the arts and culture sector in Canada and the world.  You are attuned to the Council’s values, and will work tirelessly to represent the arts, in all its forms, from coast to coast to coast.  You have a talent for maximizing the great potential of teams, are an excellent manager and mentor, and understand that the Canada Council must be a place that encourages engagement, innovation, reflection, accountability, efficiency, and optimal performance in order to best serve the arts sector and Canadians.  You are a gifted bilingual communicator, a brave leader, and are excited to help the Council as it evolves to increase its strategic impact, enhance its capacity to invest in the arts and ultimately, benefit all Canadians.
